Community Council

Nov. 17, 2021

Attendance: Neisha Rowley, Cayley Holmes, Joanne Hobbs.  Excused-Chris Whetton, Katy Blakely, Jake Petersen, Sara Hodson, Scott Slater.

Minutes: Joanne shared minutes from October’s meeting.  Cayley voted to approve and Neisha second.

Ron Clark Conference: 5 teachers attended this conference November 10-12.  3 others had to cancel and will attend in the spring.  Amy Ortegon reported that she enjoyed the energy at the conference and was impressed at the high expectations for the students.  She has already begun infusing music into her classroom and found the kids respond positively to it.  Rachel Shelley agreed with Amy’s points and shared that she felt it was one of the best opportunities that she has had in education.  All five teachers have expressed appreciation for the opportunity in attending the conference. Trustland plan provided for this opportunity.

Positive Behavior Plan: Alicia Coats and Amy Ortegon are the school’s positive behavior specialists.  They reported on the new requirement from the state that each school is required to submit a positive behavior plan.  This is to promote positive mental health strategies in the school.  Some of the areas that we are working on are Second Step program run by our counselor, the House System, conducting Red Ribbon Week, service project for Community Christmas and Restorative Practices/Circles.

Technology: When the school was built all smartboards and projectors were installed at the same time.  The need is starting to arise that they need replaced.  It is being considered that this technology will be replaced with smart panels.  Since there is money allotted for technology in the Trustland Plan, we will be proactively replacing this technology to avoid having to replace it all at the same time.

Next Meeting January 19th @ 4:00 in the Community Room
